Welcome to Bierly Brewing, a dedicated gluten free brewery in McMinnville, Oregon. We are located at 624 NE 3rd St, McMinnville, Or 97128.
Our Story
While we began our commercial endeavors in 2016, our roots in gluten-free beer and food go back much further. JP Bierly has been home-brewing with gluten-free ingredients since 2006, and was himself diagnosed with celiac disease in 2010. In 2012, JP engaged in an internship with Rick and Lisa Allen of Heater Allen Brewing in McMinnville in order to learn as much as possible about brewing beer commercially and running a small family brewery. As a lifelong celiac, JP’s husband Ames Bierly brings decades of gluten-free home cooking experience and his lifelong knowledge of the gluten-free community to Bierly Brewing.
Bierly Brewing began brewing commercially in 2016 as Oregon’s second gluten-free brewery. Our first brewery was located in the Eats & Treats Cafe in Philomath, Oregon, a dedicated gluten-free restaurant whose owners were interested in helping us get up and running. In 2018 we moved to our own facility in McMinnville where we spent three years expanding our brewing operation. We also opened our tasting room in McMinnville and began serving pub food including soft pretzels and donuts. Ames’ experimentation and innovation in gluten-free baking and frying has become as much of a draw to the tasting room as the beer is. In 2021, we completed renovations on a building in McMinnville’s Historic Downtown and moved the brewery and tasting room into our new, larger space.
We often seek out the guidance of industry professionals, both in the gluten-free and the barley-based brewing worlds. We value the insight and experience of our colleagues, and pride ourselves on our ability to prioritize collaboration over competition. JP is recognized by his colleagues as a top-notch brewer and mentor to professional brewers and home-brewers alike, and Ames is known by his customers as someone who is always ready to try something new and maybe a bit bizarre, but always delicious.
At Bierly Brewing, our passion is to provide great gluten-free craft beer and delicious food in a dedicated gluten-free facility while making positive connections with our community. We are proud to be an inclusive space, and we stand with our LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC community members.
We at Bierly Brewing have personally benefited from the theft of land from the peoples that have been here for thousands of years. Rights were removed from those peoples who had cared for the land on January 22, 1855 with Cession 352. The land that the brewery rests on was stolen from these peoples. The false narrative of open land for farming and settling drew the Bierlys, the Grabhorns, and numerous other families to the area of what became the state of Oregon while the rightful inhabitants of the land were pushed toward the coast and land reserved for them. We acknowledge these facts and pledge to work to center voices of indigenous people of Turtle Island.
