Books & Bites

Presented by Third Street Books: David G. Lewis will be here to discuss his book Tribal Histories of the Willamette Valley.
The Willamette Valley is rich with history–its riverbanks, forests, and mountains home to the tribes of Kalapuya, Chinook, Molalla, and more for thousands of years. This history has been largely unrecorded, incomplete, poorly researched, or partially told. In these stories, enriched by photographs and maps, Oregon Indigenous historian David G. Lewis combines years of researching historical documents and collecting oral stories, highlighting Native perspectives about the history of the Willamette Valley as they experienced it.

Saturday October 26, 6pm
McMinnville Short Film Festival

Join us for a McMinnville Short Film Festival Comedy & Horror Shorts Pop Up on Saturday, October 26th at 6:00 pm. Tickets are $10 at the door and delicious beer and food (all gluten free) will be available for purchase.

We’re excited to showcase the following short films:

  • Girls Night In: Girls Night In is a satirical horror short that was created based on the Bechdel test. The test examines works of fiction to see whether there are interactions between female characters that don’t involve discussing a man. Which of course begs the question, where is the most ridiculous place these two women could be fighting over some dude? DIR: Alison Roberto (@aliroberto)
  • Oswin Woods: Two friends look into a mysterious offer that arrived in their small town. The offer will give anyone $20,000 if they can stay one single night in the Oswin Woods. Many fear the Oswin Woods because of the deaths and disappearances associated with them, but is that all just a myth? DIR: Jacob Bunn (@thejacobbunn)
  • Smiley Death Face: A young girl stumbles into a text message conversation with an anonymous person that communicates entirely in Emojis. DIR: Andrew Patrick Torrez (@andrewpatricktorrez)
  • Baby Fever: A popular teen’s dream to be crowned Prom Queen is threatened when she discovers she is pregnant with something even worse than her dumb jock boyfriend’s offspring. DIR: Hannah May Cumming (@monstrousfemmefilms)

We hope to see you there!
